The ancient Greek, Hesiod, believed the men and women of his time had declined severely from a Golden Age when we had lived in peace, abundance, and harmony. Mankind had fallen so far, he believed, as to have needed the assistance of a band of heroes like Achilles and Odysseus, but by Hesiod’s own time, even the heroes had failed.

The ancient Roman, Ovid, dismissed the Heroic Age and placed more emphasis on mankind’s decadence and corruption.

Isn’t it time we stop waiting for deities and demi-gods with lightning bolts to save us? Shouldn’t we be taking some responsibility to move ourselves forward?
