AI will eliminate 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs within one to five years. Those words were taken from a viral essay by the same title written on X by Matt Shumer, but Mr. Shumer is possibly underestimating how rapidly the AI Revolution will completely rearrange our current reality.
Here’s a quote: “One … managing partner at a large firm, spends hours every day using AI. He told me it’s like having a team of associates available instantly.”
AI is not the bumbling idiot it was just a couple of years ago. Here are some facts from the essay: In 2022, AI couldn’t do basic arithmetic reliably. It would confidently tell you that 7 × 8 = 54.
By 2023, it could pass the bar exam.
By 2024, it could write working software and explain graduate-level science.
By late 2025, some of the best engineers in the world said they had handed over most of their coding work to AI.
Buckle up! More importantly, modify what you are telling our children. They should continue to follow their dreams, but they better be fluent in AI if they want to take their dreams anywhere
There are dreams, and there is reality; sometimes they overlap.
Indeed, children must be taught tool use.
Teach them to be excellent employees, or employers if they choose.
Help them to focus on goals, be kind, and practice good judgment.
Be makers, not takers.
Be useful.
Mij Rhets gives useful advice! The alarm sounded in the essay Something Big is Coming is more about the future of being a Maker instead of a Taker, and that future requires us to teach our children the tool usage known as AI!
