Supply and Demand, as Adam Smith originally envisioned it, has always been pretty straightforward, but AI is about to change that. The Invisible Hand is going to have a lot more access to your wallet.
Up until now, Demand has been generalized across the entire market. Products went on the shelves with a single set price, albeit with some regional differences. Each consumer’s preference for a product has not been a factor.
Have you noticed lately that prices are less and less likely to be directly applied to items nor displayed within the advertisements?
Since the advent of AI, it is possible for producers to determine if you have purchased a product previously. Demand will no longer be generalized across the broader market. It will be laser-focused on you specifically and your wallet. As soon as you demonstrate a preference for any item, the price to you for that same item will go up each time you buy it, and the more frequently you buy that item, the faster the price to you will rise.
A possible solution might be a new middleman, the Purchasing Cooperative, where purchases can be made anonymously. But that won’t work either. Purchases through a Purchasing Cooperative would just be automatically adjusted higher.
